The Word Became Flesh

We give thanks for our ability to come together today! Thank you for giving us the heart and mindsets to gather together in Your holy name and a want to have a closer walk with you and to “know” you in a biblical sense meaning to be at one with You. Help us to put first things first and by doing so all the rest will flow according to Your diving order. Father, we want to “first fruits” You with the first of our time daily. We pray that You will work your perfect work in us, until the Glory of your countenance radiates forth in our day to day living and the ordering of our very thoughts.  We Thank you in advance for what you are about to show and share with us in this lesson. Jesus, You are simply too “Good” to ever be forgotten!
Let every heart say…. Amen
John “The Apostle” states in his account of “The Gospel” simply refered to himself as “The disciple whom Jesus loved“. We’ll get back to this point at the end of our lesson!
Gospel is an Old English word that means “good news”. It translates the Greek word euangelion (eu, “good” and angelion, “message”), which also gives us words like “evangelist” and is related to words like “angel”.

The Word Became FleshJohn 1:1-18

In our introductory lesson on Wed we hit some important points in The Gospel of John 1: 1-2. Today, we will continue deeper into John 1:1-18 by pulling out a few key verses to focus on.
REMINDER: We are following the format from The Message // Remix Pause Daily Reading Bible but you will find many of my “study” references to include The New Living Translation or NLT . A comparative reading of scripture text provides the deepest level of understanding for any reader.
My two favorite bible translations are The Amplified Bible and The New Living Translation. Together they usually provide me with the necessary information that I need to let go and allow the Holy Spirit‘s deeper insights and revelations to speak to me, then through me. So, here just below you will read text from The Message, The NLT and The Amplified Bibles for this lesson.
John 1:2-5 (NLT)

2 He existed in the beginning with God.

3 God created everything through him,

John 1:2-5 Amplified Bible

2 He was present originally with God.

3 All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.

4 In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men.

5 And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].

John 1:2-5 (MSG)

2 in readiness for God from day one. 3 Everything was created through him; nothing—not one thing!— came into being without him. 4 What came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by. 5 The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn’t put it out.

Takeaway Points:

  • The Word express and gives form to all manifested and created life! The Word is one of the names we call Jesus Christ. HE is that central focal point in which all that is spiritually alive needs to continue to grow and flourish.
  • Even when we do not recognize or we’re ignorant of the “Truth” or the “Light” or the “Life” we are still unable to snuff out it’s existence and ultimate worth. The root word in ignorant is to ignore.
  • Living under a self form of hypnosis and ignoring the “Truth” does not change reality but instead it places the one under such practices of hypnosis in a self-contained world inside one’s own head where we can be little gods and make up our own rules. This a form of  self-deception or”miscreation” and using gifts that God has given us out of His image and likeness to push HIM away instead of drawing nearer.  Just as Jesus The Word, draws His power from the father, we can do nothing that is alive outside of Christ!

    Open blog “weekend” discussion question:
    1. Is it John’s love of Jesus or Jesus’ love of John that made them so close in your opinion?

The Deity of Jesus Christ- The Life and The Light

    My Beloved Heavenly Father,

To know you is to be enlivened! To know your love personally is to be satisfied and secure of our ultimate worth. My prayer in this lesson is for all to come to a sense of getting to know you or knowing You on a deeper level. You are not a GOD of do’s and don’ts and of rules but instead You are divine goodness, holiness and love! My prayer is that we may experience You and walk beyond the veil of religion that has obscured Your glory and wonder in the hearts and minds of humankind. You are a whole that is meant to be experienced in our hearts, minds, souls and spirits!

Allow Your character and personage to emerge so that we may worship you in spirit and in truth!

I love you!  We pray all of these things in the precious name of your Son Jesus

Prayer  because… I love talking to GOD, to show HIM honor because HE is the summation of all my reasons and because it is actually HIS Holy Spirit whom teaches, directs and guides me during these lesson and simply because the bible tells us to pray without ceasing.

     No prayer= No power.

Let’s check three different bible translations for our introductory lesson on the first two verses of the Gospel of John

    John 1:1-2 (MSG)

1 The Word was first, the Word present to God, God present to the Word. The Word was God, 2 in readiness for God from day one.

    John 1:1-2 (NKJV)

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.

    John 1:1-3 (NLT)

1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He existed in the beginning with God. 3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.

The translation that brings the true meaning of these verses to life for me is The New Living Translation or NLT.

    My Thoughts:

Before anything was created there was GOD and there was His Word. All that is created came through GOD’s Word, which is Jesus Christ. The Lamb of GOD!! HE was “slain” for our sins before the foundation of the “world”. GOD as we spoke of is not encapsulated by time, we are because of Sin. This was GOD’s way of ensuring that Sin could not go on into eternity forever and ever!  Knowing that GOD knew all of this would happen and already had a plan before HE even began the creation process gives me great comfort because I know without a doubt that HE is in control and that I do not have to worry but Pray so that I am constantly in communication with Him.

In Genesis we saw GOD speaking everything unseen into existence. However in parallel the book of John shows us GOD speaking “salvation” into existence. GOD’s Word will take on a human form and dwell among us. Emmanuel means God with us! Jesus speaks forgiveness, freedom and resurrection. With this we see things that were diseased or in a fallen and sinful state called to GOD’s Kingdom to repent, be baptized and forgiven of your sins.

Our words have power! We can begin the process of over-coming a trial just by stating ” I believe”! Our words affect our emotional states and how we see ourselves and the world around us.

    Take-Away Points:

    • The Word

The Bible gives many titles or names to Jesus. When He is called “the Word,” we are reminded of His role in the Godhead from the dateless past and beginning. Human speech has the capacity to unveil thoughts, feelings, and emotions; to show the person behind the words. Jesus is God expressing Himself through Jesus.

    • Grace

“Grace” reveals both God and man. It shows human beings as helpless, trapped in sin. And it shows God willing and able to meet our deepest needs.

    • Importance of Relationship

John was one of the disciples closest to Jesus. He saw everything Jesus did and heard everything Jesus said. John wrote his Gospel to present eyewitness evidence of Jesus’ deity so that we may believe and have eternal life. If you are unsure of your faith or of the claims of Christ, this Gospel will give you the evidence you need to decide for Christ. If you are already a believer, this study will boost your confidence.

Jesus who expresses the invisible God was Himself the Creator of all things, and has priority over all.

    Reflect on in your life

    • 1 What gives you confidence in someone?
    • 2 What makes you lose confidence in someone?
    • 3 What evidence do people need to convince them that Jesus is God’s Son?
    • 4 What evidence for Jesus’ deity could you present to someone if asked?
    • 5 List some questions about God, Jesus, the Bible, or the Christian faith that you always wanted to ask but didn’t know whom to ask.
    • 6 How might this study of John help answer those questions?

    Reading Assignment for next lesson:

    John 1:1-18(MSG)

1 The Word was first, the Word present to God, God present to the Word. The Word was God, 2 in readiness for God from day one. 3 Everything was created through him; nothing—not one thing!— came into being without him. 4 What came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by. 5 The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn’t put it out. 6 There once was a man, his name John, sent by God 7 to point out the way to the Life-Light. He came to show everyone where to look, who to believe in. 8 John was not himself the Light; he was there to show the way to the Light. 9 The Life-Light was the real thing: Every person entering Life he brings into Light. 10 He was in the world, the world was there through him, and yet the world didn’t even notice. 11 He came to his own people, but they didn’t want him. 12 But whoever did want him, who believed he was who he claimed and would do what he said, He made to be their true selves, their child-of-God selves. 13 These are the God-begotten, not blood-begotten, not flesh-begotten, not sex-begotten. 14 The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish. 15 John pointed him out and called, “This is the One! The One I told you was coming after me but in fact was ahead of me. He has always been ahead of me, has always had the first word.” 16 We all live off his generous bounty, gift after gift after gift. 17 We got the basics from Moses, and then this exuberant giving and receiving, This endless knowing and understanding— all this came through Jesus, the Messiah. 18 No one has ever seen God, not so much as a glimpse. This one-of-a-kind God-Expression, who exists at the very heart of the Father, has made him plain as day.
