Silent Praise and Sweet-Sour Worship -Wonderous Wednesday Devotional

God‘s ways don’t always make sense to us but they have great purpose.

Have you ever noticed that the power of GOD rest best in humble places?

Mark 8:36 Message Bible

Calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to saving yourself, your true self. What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you? What could you ever trade your soul for?”

Months ago now, the Lord spoke to me and told me my identity was about to be tested!

Serious stuff!

Do you really know who you are in Christ?

When the enemy makes every effort to twist you into a pretzel spiritually can you still pin point your location as a child of GOD?

Since I had been in the mist of an intense challenge from what is now a former friend during the time the Lord spoke those words to me I had believed that the “testing” would be around that issue and that by late to mid March all would be coming to an end.

The time frame turned out to be much longer and this testing would take on tones and avenues that I had never been exposed to before.

New levels… new devils!

As I am recovering from this trail I feel in many ways I’ve being asked to “start over” as yet a newer creation in Christ Jesus and more dependent on HIM than I was even before this testing and trial began. Then my perception was that I would  do was pick-up from where I left off!

This fantasy was also dashed:-0

My husband’s surgery story illustrates how I have felt during my recovery process very well.

First of all anesthesia taken for surgical operations can leave a person with a distorted perception of time. Patients report missing whole blocks of time and or confusing days!

Have you ever felt as if you were inside slow motion or being fast forwarded?

Well, I can’t explain it but I had some of those kind of experiences during my identity testing and recovery period.

And honestly, I am totally drug free! Some would even consider me a bit exacting regarding my health and what goes into my body. I mean the temple of The Holy Spirit.

Now on to my husband’s nasal/throat surgery story!

More than 9 years ago my husband had surgery on his nasal cavity and throat. This surgery was done because he was narcoleptic.

Narcolepsy is one of the most serious sleep disorders that affects people This particular condition can cause disruptions in a person’s life, and may even be dangerous in some situations. Although there is no cure for narcolepsy, it can be treated to help manage the symptoms that accompany this disorder.

To read more on Narcolepsy click here.

The procedure was done to prolong his life and the surgery was very successful and we remain deeply thankful to the Lord for its success!

However, this surgical process left all of my husbands taste buds  misfiring.

When he ate cake or other sweets it did not taste like anything except cardboard ( he reported) and on top of this it was very painful for him to even swallow even with pain medication!

My husband had to eat based on his bodily need and choose foods based on his memory of them and their taste!

No pleasure in his eating process would come for many, many months.

There are times in our christian walk when we might go through a trial that leaves us back at Christianity 101 with much of the former sweetness having disappeared and our spiritual taste buds not being able to perceive and discern sweetness and instead everything tasting bland or signals misfiring!

Depending on the type of trauma and persecution we’ve experienced it will point to what we need to fully recover so that we can dance and sing HIS praises once again with our full and whole heart.

Even in stopping to reflect on pain, mistreatment or our fears parts of our hearts are processing other matters and not able to be fully engaged to the max in our praise of him.

I think this is part of the reason why the enemy comes after believers with such a vengeance because if he can inflict enough pain then many times we are not able to fully walk in joy and praise GOD with wild abandon!

In those times spiritually when sweet taste like salty and hot taste sour, remember Jesus Christ knows how to read and process the deepest recesses of our hearts and a weak sounding praise in affliction may sound louder in heaven than all the running and shouting up and down the isles at church.

Praise and worship are about the shouts from the deepest recess of our souls and many are only heard in heavenly sound-waves!

Genesis 32:24-30

The Message Bible

24-25 But Jacob stayed behind by himself, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. When the man saw that he couldn’t get the best of Jacob as they wrestled, he deliberately threw Jacob’s hip out of joint.

26 The man said, “Let me go; it’s daybreak.”

Jacob said, “I’m not letting you go ’til you bless me.”

27 The man said, “What’s your name?”

He answered, “Jacob.”

28 The man said, “But no longer. Your name is no longer Jacob. From now on it’s Israel (God-Wrestler); you’ve wrestled with God and you’ve come through.”

29 Jacob asked, “And what’s your name?”

The man said, “Why do you want to know my name?” And then, right then and there, he blessed him.

30 Jacob named the place Peniel (God’s Face) because, he said, “I saw God face-to-face and lived to tell the story!”

Thought For Today -What’s Happened To The Me I Once Knew?

What’s Happened To Me I Once Knew?

The diet ( or lifestyle) that I followed in my twenties and even thirties somewhere along the lines stopped working for me.

When , where and how did that all happen?

My needs  changed/ mutated as I have matured and aged.

I have always been a flexible person.

And I define being flexible as…

Having the ability to realize and accept once something or someone in my life begins speaking the prophetic message… ‘move on’ it’s time to redefine yourself.

I confess,  that I have spent so much of my life starting over from the way I think to the way that I eat.

So much of my life has been spent in transformation that I feel as if  I have majored in ”  How To Rise From The Ashes“!

But, this frustrating and sometimes painful reality of never-ending change and renewal  has produced one decisive strength and advantage.

My faith in the one who never changes  Jesus Christ!

HE’s the secret weapon that you never what to be without in the mist of a battle Especially the most important battle of all the one fought for your very soul identity!

Jesus being my anchor is the one and only fact that qualifies me to speak and model truth!

HE has been my anchor in an ever-changing inner terrain and in an outer world that has known very little order!

When I look at my life today, the landscape looks nothing like it did 10 or even 5 years ago.

I no longer recognize myself  by my familiar thoughts, habits, friends, physical form or even by the possessions under my stewardship but I do recognize my true identity… the image and likeness of Christ!

When I Say I Am A Christian-By: Carol S. Wimmer

When I Say I Am A Christian

When I say …”I am a Christian,”
I’m not shouting “I am saved”
I’m whispering “I was lost!”
That is why I chose this way.”

When I say…”I am a Christian,”
I don’t speak of this with pride.
I’m confessing that I stumble and need someone to be my guide.

When I say…”I am a Christian,”
I’m not trying to be strong.
I’m professing that I’m weak and pray for strength to carry on.

When I say…”I am a Christian,”
I’m not bragging of success.
I’m admitting I have failed and cannot ever pay the debt.

When I say…”I am a Christian,”
I’m not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are too visible but God believes I’m worth it.

When I say…”I am a Christian,”
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches which is why I seek His name.

When I say…”I am a Christian,”
I do not wish to judge.
I have no authority I only know I’m loved.

Are you wearing a mask?

I know it is that time of the year when many kids and adults alike play dress-up and wear mask. But, what happens when the “mask” is a permanent fixture?

Many Christians are wearing mask and have yet to be authentic versions of what GOD designed HIS church or body to be.

God never meant for HIS church or body to live out our lives wearing a mask.

How will the world recognize that The Holy Spirit that dwells within all believers of Christ if we are concealing our true identity?

What makes void the Word of GOD???

The traditions of men.

Our LORD and MASTER Jesus Christ said, ” I am the resurrection, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except by ME.”

Traditions that we celebrate need to be investigated to learn what is behind them. Many of them may not “strengthen” us as believers but could in fact undermine our spiritual growth and tarnish our witness of Christ.

If we are ever as a “body” to be recognized as being the “head” and not the tail in this world we are not to be conformed by this world ( into it’s image) but transformed (into the image and likeness of Christ) by renewing our minds (our thinking). This means that even many of our traditions will ultimately need to be checked by Christ to see if they “fit” into the newness of life HE has given us.

Halloween is a celebration originally steeped in pagan belief systems and forms of worship that go counter to many doctrines held as corner stones of our Christian faith.

It is not possible to serve two masters faithfully and without injuring one or the other!

I fully realize that this topic may touch nerves in some but my role in ministry is to provide truth (as Christ sees it) so that souls will have been given the proper information in order to choose between life and death.

Below is clip from an article on the subject of Halloween that goes into some detail.

Knock, Knock, Knock….. You open the door and there stands one or more children standing in some sort of costume, highly excited and all screaming at the top of their lungs….”TRICK or TREAT, with out knowing the meaning of what they are saying or doing.

As an adult, do you know what Halloween represents? Most people are ignorant of what Halloween is all about and for that matter don’t care. I grew up trick or treating like most kids in America and never knew what it was all about. We even had a haunted house in the attic of the little country CHURCH I attended!!!! I was like most kids in the fact that all I wanted to do is get as much candy as I could and would do what I had to do to get it!! Including fighting with my brothers and sisters to be the first at the door….Every year I was the devil. I had the most evil, horrible, grotesque, rubber mask that was ever made. I had a pitchfork and my precious mother even sewed me a long pointed tail on my red suit.

We all have stories to tell of Halloween, but do you really know what it is all about?? If all you know of it is what I have described above, you may want to read a little further and find out more info about what you are celebrating. Now if you are a pagan you know exactly what it is, if a Christian you are involved in something God forbids and if you just a “good ole boy or girl” you don’t care.

Where did it begin?

It began over 2000 yrs ago with people known as the Celtics. They lived in what is today England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. This was also the beginning of the Celtic new year, a time to give thanks to the sun god for the harvest.

What is it all about?

Halloween, All saints day, All hallows eve or All souls day is a festival. It was held to honor the Samhain the so called “lord of death”. It was a Druidical belief that on the eve of this festival Samhain, lord of death, called together the wicked spirits that within the past 12 months had been condemned to inhabit the bodies of animals.

It was a pagan belief that on one night of the year the souls of the dead return to their original homes, there to be entertained with food. If food and shelter were not provided, these evil spirits would cast spells and cause havoc toward those failing to fulfill their requests.

Sacrifices were offered on this night to the dead spirits because it was thought they visited their earthly dwellings and former friends.

Duality…and The Christian Walk

Did you know that you and I have a dual nature?

What makes one side of our nature happy and contented makes the other unhappy and dissipates its strengths.

The bible calls this the war between the flesh-man and the new filled Spirit-man!

Being at peace with the many twist and turns one has to meet with on a daily basis requires us to  look over our daily events with integrity.

Integrity means alignment of the inside and outside.

For example, our old flesh-man habits of blaming others and becoming hostile when we don’t get what we want and/or looking at  another persons faults under a magnifying glass; while wearing rose-colored glasses when the time arrives for self-examination.

Remember, when you point a finger at another person, three fingers are pointing back in your direction. Admitting to our character flaws and placing ourselves in the Potters Hands for transformation and restoration is the only way to get peace with our new “spirit” nature and our new boss “Jesus Christ“.

Here is another example, sometimes GOD will place us around an ultra self-centered  person to show us something hidden within ourselves like perhaps our tendency of becoming judgemental of others?

It’s okay to use a true spirit of discernment. To discern means knowing truth from lies( by GOD’s  standards) but when this discerning spirit turns into us being overly critical of others and putting on a hat of judging others, then we have stepped over into GOD’s territory. Only HE has the right to judge the state of another. Never us!!

I like to think of situations as such as a “salve” that GOD allows us to receive  measure of for the purposes of drawing  sin out of our lives. To “sin” means to miss GOD’s ideal mark. So we are all sinners by this definition. It was not our Lord’s intention in a case such as the one described above to punish us but, it was much more likely an answer to some prayer we prayed; some time ago and had forgotten about.

How else are we to eventually; on a step by step basis  be made over into HIS image and likeness? All that is not like unto HIM must be drawn out. Bringing all things that were hidden into HIS marvelous light for the purposes of transformation?

YES,  this is putting the flesh to rest; each and everyday! Then taking up our “cross” is what this Christian walk is all about!!

This process of examination/ rest  is what your newly found spirit in Christ requires to thrive. If one of our natures must suffer and die, then, as children of The Most High GOD, it should be our flesh.

Our flesh does not mean our bodies because as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. So we are not setting out to abuse the Holy Spirits’ new home. What is implied by the term “the flesh”  is that mind-set and ways of thinking and being that operates in us that goes counter the Will of GOD.
